Saawariya

Saawariya is the beloved who is always in love. But not every lover can qualify as Saawariya. Only the lover who stands the test of time…who overcomes all obstacles…who doesn’t care whether he gets the girl or not…as long as he’s consumed by love…as long as he remains in a perpetual state of " being in love … "

That man, that rare lover, is Saawariya.

Before reading this review or before you watch the movie, just check if you have the following qualities:

1) You truly madly deeply love something.
2) You appreciate art, poetry and people.
3) You have the guts to accept the truth.

If you qualify all of the above, you qualify as a person to watch this film. But, if you don't , please don't watch this film and criticize it for it is a masterpiece, a timeless classic. A story which breaks all the boundaries for love, which has no time, no location, no reference....it has only love - pure and selfless love.

Starcast:

Ranbir Kapoor as Ranbir Raj:
He has nothing - no family, no money, no job, no qualification but he has the purest soul in the world, the most innocent heart in the world. [Please don't mistake innocence for immaturity. There is a lot of difference between the two.] He has the power to fight against sorrow and remain always happy. He has the charm to bring a smile on others' face.

When you read his name, you might be wondering why is Raj added to Ranbir. But, it is apt as Sanjay Leela Bhansali has created history by brining back Raj Kapoor to bollywood. Ranbir definitely reminds you of Raj Kapoor and steals your heart.

Sonam Kapoor as Sakeena:
She comes from a muslim family. She hasn't had the pleasure of having parents but she isn't alone. She has her strict aunt and her friendly caretaker with her. She is truly and madly in love with Iman [played by salman khan]. She doesn't know from where he came, what he does, where he is heading to but those few days which she spent with her made a lot of space for Iman in her heart.

MashaAllah, she is so cute, beautiful and a badmaash as well. But, every day of her life is spent waiting for Iman who left her but promised her to be back on the night of Id-Ul-Fatir.

Salman Khan as Iman:
No one knows who he is, from where he came, where he is heading to but what all we know is he is a man with love for those who love him.

Rani Mukherjee as Gulab:
I must appreciate Sanjay's guts for the way he represented Rani in this film. Gulab is a prostitute who is, like others, very unhappy in her life but when she met Raj, his innocence and charm, she couldn't stop herself from falling in love with Raj. But, alas prostitutes don't have the right to love someone. She realizes this fact and remains happy in her own world but still loves and respects Raj.

Zohra Sehgal as Lillypup:
She is an old woman who has been abandoned by her Son. All she has is a house which she gives on hire for paying guests and earns her livelihood. She never smiled nor sang a song for the past years but until one day when Raj comes to stay in her house, things change for her.

Each and every scene between Lillypup and Raj were so touching and brilliantly done.

Performances:
All performances are brilliant. Salman has nothing much to do neither his role is of much importance to anybody except for sakeena.

Music is simply divine. Sanjay must be appreciated for his guts to showcase reality in the movie.
If you think that Raj and Sakeena settle down with each other, you are wrong. Raj loves sakeena wholeheartedly but Sakeena loves Iman truly. Iman isn't a person who makes fake promises. And that is the night when Raj happily leaves Sakeena for her love and qualifies as Saawariya...
